colouring dark blue images
Here you will learn how to brighten and colour images that are dark and bluish but still be able to keep the blue
colours in the image. You don't need to use it with a dark blue image but it works the best on them.

Another horrible example, but it will do. Since this image has a lot of blue and is very dark, it'll work. You will change this:
into this:
Find your base first or simply make one. As you all know, I'm using this:
Step 1: Go to Layer and click
Curves in New Adjustment Layer. Put in
70 in Input and 149 in Output with
RGB
as the Channel. This is what you should get, something lighter than the base.
This tutorial would be over if we were just lightening the image, but since we are colouring and keeping the blue colour on, we are not done.
This image has too much of a gray tint and lost most of the blue.
Step 2: Go to Layer and click
Selective Colors in New Adjustment Layer. Put in
-100% in Cyan, +100% for Magenta and Yellow
with
Reds as the Colors. This is what you should get:
Looks the same as before, eh? Don't worry, it'll look the same for the next two steps too but if you have more colour on your image unlike
mine, then the yellow and red should be more defined than before. It should look a tiny bit brighter too.
Step 3: Go to Layer and click
Selective Colors again in New Adjustment Layer. Put in
-100% in Cyan, -35% for Magenta and +100% Yellow
with
Reds as the Colors. This is what you should get:
Also looks the same as before. But this time, the yellow in the image should be even more brighter and defined than before. Should be a tiny bit
brighter than before.
Step 4: Now we darken it a tiny bit. Go to Layer and click
Hue/Saturation in New Adjustment Layer. Put in
+20 for Saturation, -15%
for Lightness and leave Hue at 0 with
Master. This is what you should get:
Step 5: This is the last step. You may notice most but not all of the blue in the image has been destroyed. So now it's time to revive some blue!
Go to
Color Balance in
and put in -24, -11, and +7 for Midtones.
